Hood River Farmers' Market! *** Last Thursday we had the greatest number of vendors ever in our market's history - nearly 20 - let's match that with a record number of shoppers this week!
We're open from 4-7:00P.M.. This coming week you can find salad greens, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, blackberries, blueberries, sugar snap peas, braising greens, fresh cut herbs, bread, fresh flowers, native plants, and more, in addition to live SCANDINAVIAN FOLK MUSIC from Fladdermus, fun for the kids, and a Master Gardeners & Master Food Producers info booth. We're also still accepting a limited number of new vendor applications from interested farmers, and our community and consignment booths are always available for backyard gardeners with extra produce to sell.
The Gorge Grown Eco-Team plans to open a booth at the weekly Gorge Grown Farmer's Market this Thursday 7/10/08. Our booth will be staffed by associates with plant knowledge.
We emphasis the nutritional benefits of heirloom seeds, organically grown produce, and a home based garden cultured economy. We will be offering locally grown red sweet-corn meal and a hot cereal mix, as well as featuring freshly harvested organic garlic, and several varieties of chickpeas. Hanging flower baskets and assorted items will incorporate culinary herbs and will also be for sale.
Come explore the benefits of freshly squeezed vegetable juice's and wheat grass juice enzyme therapy. Justin-Time & Friends will be kicking some beats and stiring up other facets of rhythm at about 6:30p.m.
THIS IS A TEST DRIVE... INTERESTED? COME FOR POTLUCK AT HIGH NOON, WE PROVIDE THE HELMETS.

Yippie we scored our first touchdown at the HR Farmers Market. The juice bar was frequented by family, friends and a number of children. Terra and Chipmunk we're quite busy flagging inquiries and answering questions, while Jason connected the dots...

THIS WEEKEND: the Mobile Market brings fresh produce to YOU! Yes, after much talk and buzz, the MOBILE MARKET is on the road! If you live in Mosier, Dufur, Cascade Locks, or Stevenson, read on for info on when and where the market will be in your town!
But first - just what is this mobile market, anyway?
Imagine fresh produce: blueberries and lettuce and beans and cherries and tomatoes and more - grown around the Gorge and picked fresh, available every weekend in rural Gorge communities.
This summer, we're making that a reality! From July 12 - August 24, GGFN will be filling our 14-foot box truck each weekend with locally-grown produce from farmers all around the Gorge and then sell on Saturdays and Sundays at designated weekly sites. We welcome other Gorge small farmers and backyard gardeners to join us on site and sell their own produce. (We are also looking for more farmers who'd like to help source the market; call Sarah or Todd at 490-6420 or 386-3235 for more info)
The goal of the Gorge Grown Mobile Farmers' Market is twofold: to increase local market opportunities for small farmers in the Gorge region and to increase access to locally-grown fresh foods for rural Gorge communities.
This is a PILOT season of the mobile market project, so we're still working out what to sell, where to sell it, and how to make this thing work. Please do share your feedback and ideas. At the conclusion of the season, we will evaluate the project marketing, sites and routes, sales, all aspects of the pilot and use this information to refine and improve the operation for 2009, when we plan to explore an expanded mobile market program! (more sites! more produce! EBT/food stamp access!)
In the meantime, are you ready to go shopping?
Find the market at these sites from JULY 12 - AUGUST 24:
SATURDAYS ---------------------- Stevenson, WA: 9 AM - 12 PM, downtown (next to the Chamber of Commerce) Cascade Locks, OR: 1 PM - 3 PM, location TBA (look for our sandwich boards saying "Gorge Grown Fresh Produce" - last week we were at the Marina, this week we hope to finalize a permanent site, call 490-6420 on Saturday if you're lookin' for us!)
SUNDAYS ---------------------- Dufur, OR: 12 PM - 2 PM, Threshing Bee grounds (next to the historical museum) Mosier, OR: 3 PM - 5 PM, 10 Speed East Coffehouse (on Hwy 30 in town)
Questions? Comments? Ideas? LET US KNOW!
This project has been made possible by financial support from the Oregon Investment Board, the Washington Investment Fund, Columbia Gorge Family Medicine, and the Mid-Columbia Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. ____________________________________________________________
VOLUNTEER? We have lots of volunteer opportunities at the farmers' market and on the mobile market. Got a few hours free on a Thursday? Looking to boost your resume between jobs or before college? Just out to do something fun and social? Want to take on a hands-on role in building a regional food system? We'd love to have your help!
P.S. Did we mention it's fun?
Contact Sarah for more details on all the volunteer opportunities we've got. 541-490-6420, sarah@gorgegrown.com
