JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Dalles Farmers’ Market seeks a market manager to oversee the nonprofit market.

The market operates every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Park from May 30 through October 10, 2009.
Subject to negotiation with the successful candidate, The Dalles Farmers’ Market Board of Directors anticipates this being a 5-6 hour/week time commitment from hiring until early May. The position would then become a 6-8 hour/week commitment during the market season, decreasing to 1-2 hours/week in the fall. This is a volunteer position.

Duties
• Recruit and coordinate volunteers
* Special events
• Point of contact for market communication
• Recruit and support vendors
• Oversee the market day nuts and bolts
* Signs out, assign vendor booth spots, bathrooms community table setup, etc.
o Help vendors load and unload
o Advise on pricing and booth presentation
o Collect and track fees
o Clean up
• Assist vendors in finding information on and being compliant with state and local health and
licensing regulations and permits (pertaining to both produce and prepared food vendors)
• Collect market data with the assistance of volunteers, including crowd counts
• Work with Board of Directors
• Additional duties as needed

Katherine Loeck will serve as Assistant Manager and support the operations of the market. Additionally, volunteer participants of The Dalles Farmers’ Market Board of Directors will contribute in-kind labor hours for planning, fundraising and sponsorship, grassroots marketing and promotion, and assist with market setup and management, if requested.

· Lifting up to 75 lbs
· Gopher trapping
· Forklift operators
· Errand workers to drive company vehicles

Turtle Island Foods in Hood River seeks microbiologist for part time work. Duties would include preparing and maintaining clean, pure industrial grade tempeh starter culture (rhizophus oligosporus).
